What is Carton Packaging?

Carton packaging is packaging that is done with cardboard boxes. These cardboard boxes are paperboard boxes cut into specific sizes for different packaging materials. The process of creating the final packaging consists of three steps. These steps are;

  • Preparing pulp from scrap paper, also known as preparing paperboard
  • Cutting the paper board into multiple shapes and sizes
  • Folding the paperboard
  • Laminating the paperboard

After carefully performing each step, once the paperboard is completely ready, it is delivered flat to be packed and further folded into the desired shape.

These basic steps are a part of the origin of every carton packaging preparation. Apart from these steps, other steps can also be included in the preparation process. These additional steps depend on whether or not you want additional things on your carton. These additional things can be many things, such as any text or illustration you want to be printed on the carton. These steps then require some alterations in the preparation process. For this, during the processing of the paperboard, “dielines” are created. Dielines refer to the templates made to ensure that the process goes in the right direction and that the final packaging product will come out as desired. These templates guide all the cut lines a package should have to be of a certain size and shape. After the dielines are created, the desired text or illustration is added to them to be printed on large paperboard sheets. In the end, these cut pieces are folded and glued together like regular cartons, the only difference being the presence of a print on them.
